Last night in Deerfield NH a fire was reported at 9pm at house located at 201 on Nottingham RD.

A neighbor reported hearing explosions and then saw intense flames coming from the home, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office.

Firefighters from the communities of Nottingham, Candia, Raymond, Chester, Allenstown, Pembroke, Lee, Strafford, Durham, Brentwood, East Kingston, Epping, Fremont, Barrington, Northwood, and Auburn responded. Members of the Deerfield Police Department and Raymond Ambulance also assisted before the fire was determined to be under control at 2:26 a.m.

Responding firefighters learned a woman lived at the home. They tried to find her but were unable to at first, officials said.

The Deerfield Fire Department said the attic and second floor of the home partially collapsed.

"We had heavy fire in one of the back corners of the residence. That continued to spread. We tried to make an initial interior operation. The crew was forced out of the building due to the heat and the attic collapsing on the second floor," said Deerfield Fire Chief Matthew Fisher. "From there, we repositioned to defensive operations and sustained that for as long as we could. We had some water issues because of our location in town, but we were able to overcome that, and with our mutual aid, we eventually put the fire out and found the dogs and the victim."

After the fire was put out, firefighters found the woman's body on a porch. Investigators believe the woman is the resident of the home, which was built in 1756.

Officials said an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of the woman's death.

The name of the woman who was found dead has not been released.

No other residents or firefighters were injured, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office at 603-223-4289 or fmo@dos.nh.gov.
