U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire said Tuesday that continued negotiations offer the best path forward following a ceasefire involving Iran, though she warned major security concerns remain.
Speaking in Keene, Shaheen noted Iran still retains significant missile capacity, enriched uranium, and control of the Strait of Hormuz, leaving the core issue of preventing a nuclear weapon unresolved.
While acknowledging some degradation of Iran’s capabilities, Shaheen said the country’s technical expertise allows it to rebuild its nuclear program.
The White House defended President Donald Trump’s recent rhetoric, saying it helped secure the ceasefire, though Shaheen called the remarks “inappropriate.” U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander went further, condemning the comments as unjustifiable.
